Indianapolis’ Oreo Jones dropped his best work to date earlier this year with the sonically expansive and genre bending Cash for Gold LP through Rad Summer. The album plays with elements spanning everything from chillwave to pyschedelia to electronic music creating a collection that is very much contemporary where we are exposed to a variety of sounds at the click of a mouse. “Goldust” is the woozy opening track of the release and really sets the tone for the unexpected twists and turns experienced throughout. It also happens to be the soundtrack to the first chapter and video in a mini-series directed by Sam Miro and Joe Sailer introducing you into the world of Oreo Jones, while illustrating the context behind the album. Cash for Gold is available for purchase now digitally and on vinyl.
We’re pleased to announce we’ve been nominated in several categories for Nuvo’s Annual Best of Indy List! Green Eggs & Yam is the debut LP from John Stamps on Rad Summer!
John Stamps follows up his wavy single “G Baby” with the full length project Green Eggs & Yam. Green Eggs & Yam is true to Stamps’ trademark blend of psychedelic instrumentals from his frequent collaborator KNAGS and his compellingly faded rhymes. The final product of Green Eggs & Yam is the perfect soundtrack for a lit summer. Green Eggs & Yam is in a flawless introduction to the Ghosttown representer for the unaware and exactly what his fans have been thirsting for since hearing “G Baby”.
Oreo Jones returns with Cash 4 Gold, his first full length LP since Betty!
Indianapolis rapper Oreo Jones makes hip-hop for people with unreasonable expectations of what hip-hop can and should be. A gifted lyricist with an ear for rich, textured beats that check off most boxes on the “new school” and “true school” checklists, Jones is both classicist and futurist. “Cash for Gold” delivers the soulful instrumentation that backpack-toting boom-bap addicts demand, the emotional vulnerability we expect in a post-Drake world, and a heavyweight intelligence that never becomes condescendingly academic. Jones isn’t afraid to indulge in classic tropes like the shoeboxes full of cash in “Sufficient Funds,” but never gets hung up on them; he uses pop-culture and sci-fi reference points without relying on them as a crutch. Most importantly, his songs are infectious, the sort that burrow into you brain and remain lodged there for days. Hip-hop in the 21st century means a lot of different things to a lot of different people, but Jones is among the rare artists who can satisfy all of them.
