Rad Summer partners with No Bad Ideas Clothing for custom snapback and return of Rad Summer Radio!

Rad Summer is proud to announce our unique partnership with No Bad Ideas Clothing Company! Earlier this spring, No Bad Ideas reached out to Rad Summer about brainstorming a plan to partner and expand the breadth and reach of both brands. From those brainstorming sessions came plans to revive the Rad Summer Radio mix series, now presented by No Bad Ideas, and produce a limited edition Rad Summer custom designed snapback hat. Watch for NBI presents Rad Summer Radio to start broadcasting in early June and the snapbacks to be available later this summer!

After the success of our collaboration tank with Dope Couture last summer, Rad Summer was already on the hunt for a new clothing brand to partner for a snapback for the label’s 1 year anniversary this summer when No Bad Ideas approached us in March. It seemed like fate having a headwear company approach us at the same time we desired to release a custom Rad Summer snapback, but we wanted to make sure that No Bad Ideas benefited from the arrangement as well. The one thing that Rad Summer does better than most is making people dance, so it is only logical that we bring back Rad Summer Radio featuring DJs from label’s roster and now present it by No Bad Ideas.

On the flip, No Bad Ideas has created a serious buzz around their brand by designing innovative and unique hats for DIY-inspired audiences. With the upcoming collab snapback, we have combined NBI’s innovative designs with Rad Summer’s trademark freshness. The hats will be all black with a black bill, white outlined Rad Summer logo, and a tropical print under the bill. These will be a must have for every streetwear enthusiast, music head, and anyone wilin’ cuz they young!

Rad Summer is extremely proud to present to you Neopolitan, the debut album from Dorsh, as a free download!

Neopolitan is much like the ice cream it is named after. It’ s a mixture of Reggae, Electro, Disco, Soul, Hip-Hop, Rock, Dubstep, and R&B, flavors all blended into one creamy collection. When Dorsh Deans sat down to conceptualize the Neopolitan album, Dorsh realized with his given “Jaminglican” (Jamaican, English, and American) heritage, that he was in a unique position to represent a significantly large group of people authentically. Having spent his entire life as a soccer player in the U.S. and abroad, he wanted the album to mirror the workings of the World Cup, and its function to bring people together from all parts of the globe. Soccer exposed Dorsh to many cultures and he felt it was only appropriate that he share my experiences through another universal language, music.

Dorsh made Neopolitan to show people that it is ok to be yourself, to celebrate differences, and to embrace more than ONE kind of music! People learn the best through music, and Neopolitan presents a new way to grasp the concept of a “diverse” album and artist.

In the past year, Dorsh has been featured on several top music blogs and radio shows domestically and Internationally. On February 24, 2012 his debut single “Je t’aime”, from the Neopolitan LP, premiered at #10 on Hypem’s popular music charts. Amidst performing with a wide range of artists from LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad to Talib Kweli, Dorsh has done remix work for FADERLABEL in NYC, engineered for Ska Rebirth in Kingston, and mastered for Asahi Brewery in Tokyo. Successfully earning his stripes in the as an engineer/producer, Dorsh is now ready to transition from behind the board to behind the mic with his debut LP Neopolitan for Rad Summer!

Dorsh drops new single “Belief” (Dave Owen Remix)!

Dorsh’s newest single off Neopolitan is a remix by drum-n-bass heavy weight Dave Owen.

Dorsh is the type to stretch boundaries, to combine genres, and to stake new territory as a pioneer of sorts. Following his dream to become a professional soccer player, Dorsh attended trials with Birmingham City in the English Premiership and with the Jamaican National team in 2008. Unfortunately, during a league match against IU at Butler University, where he attended school, he suffered a blow to the head that shattered his face in multiple locations, ruining his soccer dreams forever. It’s funny how life sets a path for you; most would say they stumbled upon the place they currently find themselves living or working. Injuries may shatter bones and ruin dreams; alternatively, they may also open doors. No longer pursuing a career in soccer, Dorsh turned his interest to music and here he is 4 years later with his debut L.P. Neopolitan which will be released via Rad Summer May 7th 2012. Much respect, bless up!

Lemi Vice and Knife Fight curate a 6 track remix project of their wildly popular Knife Vice Moombahton EP!

Last month, Rad Summer released one our most popular projects to date: Lemi Vice and Knife Fight’s collaboration the Knife Vice Moombahton EP. It seemed as if overnight the EP exploded all over the internet with its bouncy drums and huge basslines, and by the end of the first week it resided firmly in the top 10 of Beatport’s electro house releases. Not being ones to let a good thing die too soon, the Knife Vice boys have curated this bananas six track remix release. With remixes from Red Mob, jFET, Sputnik, Filthy Disco, John Larner, and Huxley, standouts “Gorilla Revolution” and “Moombrah” get makeovers that span house, techno, dubstep, and moombahcore. If you enjoyed original, this remix EP definitely ups the ante!

Lemi Vice
Over the past decade, Lemi Vice has established himself as respected musician throughout the Midwest. Never one to settle into a single style of music, Lemi instead chooses to draw from his experiences of “long nights in dark clubs, and the science fiction movies” of his youth. This allows the young producer to transition between nearly every genre and progression in bass music. In the past 3 years that Lemi has been DJing publicly, he has performed alongside the likes of Figure, Zebo, Dethface, Flufftronix, Charlie Glitch, Maddjazz, and many others. For bass junkies around the world, Lemi is their new vice.

Knife Fight
Ephraim Cuellar aka Knife Fight has been carving his way through the Chicago night life scene since 2009 with sharp free form sets that include everything from the tropical sounds of Latin house and moombahton to heavy bass and hip-hop. In that sliver of time, Knife Fight has shared bills at Wicker Park Fest 2011, Green Music Fest, Beauty Bar (Chicago), The Mid, Berlin, Congress Theater, Debonair Social Club, Le Pasage, Funk, and Cobra Lounge with the likes of Will Eastman, Huoratron, Willy Joy, Rob Threezy, Charlie Glitch, Jack Beats, and LOL Boys. The young producer/DJ currently holds down a weekly residency at Evil Olive titled Wasted Bass. Knife Fight’s debut release will be a collaboration EP with Lemi Vice that is set to drop via Rad Summer in early March 2012.

Dorsh continues his collaboration with director Jace to provide the visual side of Neopolitan with release of the video for “Alias”!

In this instant vintage classic “Jaminglican” Procuder/Artist Dorsh, shows off his unique ability to swap accents at the drop of a dime (no pun intended). Like a chameleon he uses his lifetime of traveling and supreme knowledge of cultures to camouflage into any scene. He teamed up with Hoodie Allen’s Producer RJF for a soulful U.K. house feel and top notch Indianapolis video director Jace, for the seductive visuals. Dorsh links up with producer RJF to craft a thoughtful examination of race and beauty.

On February 13, Dorsh Deans stumbled across an NPR Fresh Air interview with Oscar nominated actress Viola Davis. She discussed the traditional roles of dark-skinned women in Hollywood films and made an incredible point about how ‘media inspires the mulatto from within’. Dorsh completely agreed with her position and wrote a song which features poetry from the legendary Gil Scott-Heron and production from RJF. The track is entitled “The Mulatto (Afrodite)” and it depicts the life of a girl who knows she is beautiful but falls victim to societies simulated standard of light-skinned beauty. Dorsh is reaching out because he feels that the message covers an important issue that no one is addressing in the hip hop/music community.
